framed by the trends

HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!
I'VE BEEN HIT BY THE OMBRE BARS!
ON NO!!!
NOT AGAIN!
I'M ZIGGED ZAGGED BY CHEVRON!
AND WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THESE?
WHAT HAPPENED TO REGULAR RECTANGLES AND SQUARES?!?!?
when the ombre trend came out, i tried not to like it.
when the chevron trend came out, i tried not to like it.
when the fancy frames came out, i tried not to like it.

i will not like them in my house.
i will not like them with a mouse.
i will not like them here nor there.
i will not like them anywhere!

i kept saying this over and over again.
but the trends kept coming.

how could it be so?
it came with ribbons!... it came with tags!...
it came with packages, boxes, and bags!

dang.
i was doomed...
DOOMED!

the more it came,
the more i was drawn into the black hole.

the black hole of trendiness.
that deep dark hole that is pretty much impossible to get out of unless another trend comes and brainwashes you away.

thus,
it overtook me.

and i only saw this
when i looked in the mirror.
but wait!
cuz,

then i got an idea.
an awful idea.
yes, i got a wonderful, awful idea!

yes!
that's what i'll do!

so i went to my favorite stores.

marshall's. tj maxx. homegoods.

the dreaded trifecta.
and every one of these stores are in first place.
they're the ones who make me turn to jelly and give up all of my hard earned (cough) money.

so whatev.

i decided to splurge on this project of mine,
when i found this:
here's a closer look:

oh yes, i know it was expensive, but what's a girl with a freakish face to do?

so i got to work.

look, i'll show you how you can jazz these (ahem!) ugly frames up.

get some painter's tape & a fiskar's zigzag ruler.
a set of glitter.
more specifically,
this (or other bottles of the same/like color)
oh and modge podge too.
or white glue like elmer's.
(i used modge podge cuz that's what i had available)

ok first tape your ruler on the back of your frame like so,
leaving about an inch or so from the top.
on the front you will see there is a space to place modge podge on.

cover that space with really thick modge podge and glitter it with your first color.

then untape the ruler,
tape it a little lower,
apply thick modge podge,
glitter,
and repeat.
move the ruler lower,
apply thick modge podge,
glitter,
repeat.

do it
all
the
way
down
the
frame.

like so.
and no, i did not measure anything.
i just eyeballed it and went for it.
i didn't care if it was even or not.
and i made it blue and green to match our living room.
you can do whatever you want of course.

now when all your layers are done,
take some glitter glue pens
and outline the layers like so:
try to match the glitter pen with the layer.
all done with frame #1.
for frame #2,
paint it white.
after the paint dries,
mark off points on both sides of the frame using the smaller zig zag side of the ruler. then connect the points lightly drawn with a pencil.
after all your chevron lines are drawn,
go over them with any color glitter glue pen.

i used black thinking i was gonna like it.
but then i didn't.
so i had to figure out a way to fix it.

guess i am not really a craft planner huh?

so anyway, when those zig zag lines dry,
(i know, stick with me if you've come this far) paint the whole thing over again with the white paint.

what?! you say?
no look, it gives the frame dimension :)
(guess if you had a white glue pen that would work too and save you from painting it all over again:>P)

now start dotting the frame at each point with every kinda glitter pen you got.
here's another look.
so there you have it.
 2 trendy frames for $5.00.
i do!
i do so like chevron & ombre (ham?!).
thank you thank you sam-i-am!
and i will have it in my house.
and i will have it with a mouse.
and i will have it here and there.
and i will have it
EVERYWHERE!

hope you like 'em too!
thanks for sticking with me for this ultra long post:)

  1. These are awesome, but where are the mustaches????? LOL! I was reticent to succumb to their popularity too, as I assumed it would be short lived, but I eventually gave in also, and who wouldn't with those great prices you found them for. You are an awesome bargain shopper! I wish I could learn from your skills! They turned out gorgeous and I love your glitter collection, sooo pretty! The dotted one is adorable, too!
