diy pumpkin & candy apple candles

what happens when you have crafter's disease?
you know, when you can't live a day without making or thinking of creating,
so that everything looks like a potential craft of some sort.

well, something like this goes on:
yowza.
will my brain ever stop?

cuz one day i got gas for my car at 7-11 which led me to get a slurpee.
then i remembered i had to get a few things at the store.
that darn target.
i wasn't planning on getting these.
but for $3 each and a slurpee in my hand,
i got the idea to make some fall crafts.

so here's how it went:
that stem came from my backyard.
good ole nature.

now put that aside and grab that
slurpee/icee lid and do this:
and with some more E-6000 glue,
comes the next step.
ok so first i gotta tell you this.
when i craft, it's all or nothing.
i don't measure or draw the plans out ahead of time.
it's all in my head and i just wing it.

which certainly does not help you as i have no clue what size that felt is that i used,
except it was large enough to cover the lid with just a little extra.
i got that jute cord at target's dollar spot too.
i should call it the $50 spot for me.

so now it's coming together to look like a pumpkin.
just a couple more details.
i used the sharpie before the paint just for a guideline.
i could've left it as is but it looked too plain to me.

the ribbon hangs just below the rim edge as you can see
in order to cover up the line between the candle lid and the candle bottom.

so now let's craft the apple candle.

i used regular tacky glue for this.
no reason why i used tissue paper vs. felt for this one,
other than i just wanted to see if tissue paper would work.

sorry i don't have a pic of the tissue paper gluing but when i glued the tissue paper,
i folded it in half and just glued one part of it, and then i folded the other half over the glued part so the tissue wouldn't look all wrinkly from the glue.

here's a little more detail on how the paper works,
which i like much better than the pumpkin.
when you cover the candle bottom,
you'll have to glue the ends to the bottom instead of tucking it in for the top part.

god i hope that makes sense! :>O

ok so let's "dip" that apple in caramel and sprinkles.
the sprinkles are just sharpie paint marker lines.
and i got that ribbon from who knows where-sorry it was in my craft stash!

anyway,
we are now done with our fall food craft.
so let's take a peek inside shall we?
it's a pumpkin smelling pumpkin scented candle.

and here's an apple smelling
apple scented candle.
just be careful to keep the lid away from the candle while burning (duh!)

(i saw in the next few days that another target i went to actually had a caramel apple candle-so try to get that one instead of the one i chose.
shoot for me but good for you!)
make a bunch for your friends.
but first you'll have to grab some slurpee/icee drinks.

oh the woes of crafting life!
;)

fruit salad mason jar lights

how much fruit do you eat?
if you've hung around this blog awhile you may have noticed that fruit is lacking 'round here.

it's not purposeful though.
it's just that i tend to lean toward unhealthy foods
(ie: cookies, cakes, donuts and such)compared to healthy foods when it comes to my food crafting.

i think it's all the nursey stuff i have to do all the time so i gravitate to sweets,
cuz it's just more fun.

but today is different cuz i have some fun fruit for ya finally!

well, sort of.
does this count?
heehee
these guys make me giggle!

keep reading to make your giggle fruit too.
i've had that stripe green tissue paper for while now and so so sorry but i have no clue where i got it!
but try any green tissue paper even if it's patterned because it'll add to the whimsy of these lights.

ok next up:
no need to measure your squares or anything since you want them to overlap each other.
and no need to glue them on perfectly either.
kids can help too!

now let's tackle the lid.
gluing the tissue paper strips for the leaves onto the cardstock gives them strength to stick out.
just freehand cut the leaves.
the more imperfect the better whimsy.

now time for the face.
use any jar you want. don't worry about the shape or size to match the fruit.
that's the fun of these jars.

no worries=more fun

so using the same steps above, only making different leaves and a folded rectangle nose, make him:
or her:

so now that i got a fruit salad going,
i think we need a purple something.
(or maybe mister grape?!)
anyway we now we have our salad.

so how's 'bout it?
put more fruit light in your daily life.
summer's comin' real soon and fruit's always the best kinda treat to have.
sugar or no sugar.
:)

oh and speaking of sugar, sweet Dawn did a whole post on me on her blog, PRETTY SHABBY UK.
hope you check it out even though i shy away from things like these-lol

candle cupcakes for my 2nd YEAR BLOGIVERSARY

time flies when you're having fun.
boy ain't that the truth!
i mean, i've done so much stuff in terms of blogging and seriously have gained so much from it.

like meeting friends.
from all over.
sometimes never seeing their face or talking to them in person but feeling pretty cool about what we have together.

you know what i mean.
cuz it's YOU that makes my stress days unstressed.
it's YOU that makes me smile and laugh with your funny comments.
it's YOU that warms my heart with your sweetness.

you know who i'm talking about whether it means coming here often or inviting me for a blog collaboration.
awesome folks like Dona, J, Kim, Sue, Beth, Karyn, Brenda, Jill, Heather, Toni, Melinda, Krista
and many many countless others.
including the blogs that took me to over 400 features alone in the past 2 years...

you guys give me the energy and drive to come up with
out-of-the-box stuff that keeps people coming back.
you guys make me find out things about myself and what i can actually come up with that i never knew existed.

and to all of you who are new here and have found this crazy place recently i hope you keep coming back! thank you so much for visiting me when there are 99 million gazillion other blogs out there. i can't thank you enough!

lots of people ask me where the heck i get my ideas from and i tell them it's divine intervention. for me i find when you share with others then you get lots more in return. lots more in regards to lots more far fetched over the top ideas that you just gotta share.

so that's what my blog is about.
to make you happy.

so i made something sweet for you on this very special day.
and you can make them too, just by doing this:
i just used a yellow box mix.
then i tinted half of it pink.
then i made this frosting and,
a million pics are mandatory.
especially of sprinkle cupcakes.

because then you can make printables like this:
when you right click on it and save to your computer, you can print it out whatever size you want.

so back to more frosting.
i divided the rest and colored it 3 ways.
you can watch this awesome video to help you understand this method a little clearer.
ok so it's not the prettiest dollop in blogland but whatever.
i added too much confectioner's sugar but it's still fun right?
it doesn't become fun for me when the shape is stressed over to get it to look like a perfect dollop so we are just gonna go with this one.

cuz look:
and when you open the cupcake up, you get this:
ta da!
i guess it would look cooler with a perfect flame dollop but i ain't gonna stress about it.
that's one for each blog year.
yup i made these for you and also because today marks my
2nd BLOGIVERSARY!!!!!!
YAHOOOOOO!!!

one part of me feels like i've been blogging for decades and another tells me reality when i see the number of FB likes is far below the number of many other blogs.

but no matter, i don't stress out about numbers.
i just wanna have fun and not spend hours on social media.
cuz that takes away from my creative fun and mom /wife duties. and with the career i have,
i need all the fun i can get!

so i keep making stuff, not ever realizing at the start that this was gonna end up being mostly a tutorial blog. but my parents were teachers and i guess that's the part of me that wants to teach and besides, it's a heckuva lot of fun.

so here's to more fun!
let's have a giveaway!!!
it's a SPRING FLING PARTY PACK!

valentine chocolate candy box candle

I see your holiday is coming. Y'know, the one where so many people buy these and your you tube songs are viewed and your sales increase for that day.
Hmmmmmm...
I've been wondering Mr. White, that when I pretend what a bear would sound like, I always picture your voice.
I get bears once in awhile around my house and was thinking of asking them over to sing us a tune.
I figured it would be the next best thing to having you over, cuz y'know you're not exactly available...
My son said he would give it a pork chop as a thank you.
Oh and don't worry Mr. Gaye, we'll give raisins too.

But oh wait! I just remembered.
I'm not really a fan of Valentine's Day.

I only like it for the candy and the crafts but that's about it.
And I love the fact that I can wear my grandma underwear and be completely fine with it.

My husband on the other hand thinks differently.

Anyway, I did make this candy box candle in honor of your most fave holiday. And it smells like chocolate. And most of the supplies came from the Dollar Tree. And that's about it.

Hope you like it. I think it will increase your sales since y'know, dead famous people seem to earn more when they are dead. Just ask Michael Jackson.

Sincerely,
Lisa@hooplapalooza

p.s. (Mr. White and Mr. Gaye, did i forget to mention i made this candle for my kids? what were you thinking?...this is a family site!)
