shark candy cups

LOOK OUT!
don't go into the water!
DO.
NOT.
GO.
INTO.
THE.
WATER.

what? it's summer and i'm so dang hot!

ok ok. you're right...
go ahead into the water.

but...
LOOK OUT!
don't go into the craft room!
DO.
NOT.
GO.
INTO.
THE.
CRAFT ROOM.
i'm serious this time!
it's because:
it all starts out with trip to walmart.
you can find these cups in the party section.
there's 8 to a pack and come in all sorts of colors.
i just free-handed a pen mark on the cup, and started to cut-you can always trim it so the edges depict a mouth better. make the cut about 1/2-1/3 down from the top to leave room to fill the cup up with goodies of your choice.
set that aside and grab some white cardstock,
red & black electrical tape,
lo-temp glue gun, google eyes,
 and keep using those scissors.
now do that again to make 2 rows of teeth.
good thing sharks have uneven crooked teeth-sure makes cutting them out easy!

also, i like using electrical tape because it stretches and bends and stays put.
plus the red makes for a cool gumline.

ok next step:
ok turn that fin around and glue it on right unlike that pic above (duh on my part)!

and now that that's all done, do it again and again to get:
JAWS x3 (or whatever number you choose).

so what do you do with these?
yikes!
he looks awful hungry!

wonder why sharks are always so darn hungry???
oh gosh! no wonder they're hungry!
they got nothin' in their bellies!

better feed these fellas or they're gonna be looking at my fat thigh to munch on. lol

golly!
slow down you greedy sharks you!
and chew with your mouth closed will ya?!?!!
huh?
should we tell them you can get those fish at any walmart?
oh those poor fish don't stand a chance...
poor guy is in such shock he doesn't realize he's missing his tail!?!

that way when they're all filled,
the kids can take over from there.
enjoy shark week everyone!
and watch out for those sharknados too.

shark and scuba diver truffles

hey how are you enjoying shark week?
i haven't watched one show yet.

i think it's cuz i feel like the guy in the green suit, which you will see in this post soon enough.

it's cuz one of my kids started school this week, the other one is a teen that starts next week, and so we haveta figure out what she's gonna do, and i headed on back to work M-F myself.

sigh. no more sleeping in since my summer is officially gone but i did somehow get to make something.
let's put on our scuba gear and take a look since it's underwater...
oh molds! how do i love thee?
i love thee to the depths and breaths...ok ok so it's no lie i got this thing for silicone molds.

my sis lives in the big apple and they have the coolest stores there, one being a place called paper presentation.
holy cow what an awesome crazy fun craft store that was! i looked online to see if i could direct you to this mold to get it too but it's not sold at their online shop. boohoo!
(so here's another way to get it here if you want but it is kinda pricey online, unlike the price i got it for.)

imagine my heart skipping when i saw these a few weeks before official shark week so hot diggety into the cart they went!

when i got them home,
i wanted to do something a little different.
next i made some bluish gray colored candy melt.
and yes it was a messy job but someone's gotta do it.
no worries though cuz once the candy firms up, it cleans up super easy cuz it just flakes away with a little nudge.

btw, is your mask getting fuzzy or blurry?
no worries, i promise you won't drown or nothing, it's just the deep water effect.

ok let's see what's next.
hot diggety again these trader joe's truffles are soooo yummy!
i was gonna make my own truffle filling but the heck with that when these are so good and already made.
so i did this:
either shake the mold gently or hit the mold on the counter to smooth out the candy and get the air bubbles out.
i forgot to take a pic of that for you.
then freeze to firm up and pop them babies outta the mold.
i made the divers the same way i made the sharks with more colored candy melts.

hmmm...what's that shark complaining about?
well it's about time those sharks knew what it felt like to not be them.
wonder if they saw it coming?

well, the green scuba diver dude reminds me of how discombobulated i feel lately but i don't think i would be comforting a shark.

not with a dismembered arm anyway.

decorated shark beach towel clips

dun dun.
dun dun.
dunny dun!
it's SHARK WEEK!

to me the scariest part about shark week is trying to get a shark post up before the week's ended :>P

but what should i do?
shark cookies? i already did that last year.

shark cupcakes? been done a million times.

shark sharks?
huh?
heck i'll just go the dollar store and
check it out before i kill myself trying.
well these looked interesting enough.
let's take 'em outta the package.

nothing like a few craft supplies can't cure.

whew! that was a close one.
those sharks almost got me i tell ya.
dang. it's always simpler than i think.

fish-filled shark cookies

awww, look at the cute leetle fishees.
floating around in the deep blue sea with the radiance of sunshine above.

so calm.

so peaceful.

not a worry in the world.

lucky fishees.
hey hey!

where ya goin' fishees?
did i say something wrong?
HOLY CRAPPERS!

is that?

could it be?!?!?!
run fishees run!!!!
i mean swim!
swim! SWIM! SWIM!!!!!
OH NO!
they're circling!!!!!
they're awfully wonky hungry looking!
and they're getting closer to the poor leetle fishees!
and closer...
and CLOSER!!!!

oh my heavens!
what happened to the calm blue sea?

where in the world did those sharks come from?
is it shark week or something?

heehee
that brownie pop pan came in handy again.

and yup i used store bought sugar cookie dough.
just follow the package directions.

i had these sharks on my mind and didn't wanna fiddle around looking for a "best sugar cookie" recipe cuz i was really interested in the decorating part and also cuz i am lazy.
but if you're not lazy, go for your best recipe!

you don't have to color the dough gray (by adding a tiny bit of black food coloring), but i did, thinking they would look fine.
but then i saw that gray cookies are not very appetizing.

in fact they are pretty groddy looking.

unless you are a sperm whale.
i hear they EAT sharks.
i used the end of a pie cutter handle for mine.
you can use whatever will fit.

no no no, not your shoe heel.
that might be a tad too big...

ok let's move on.
i had a small ghost cookie cutter that i used for the fins so that they would at least be the same size. then i cut the sides of them to form the fins as shown above.
you can also freehand them with a knife as i did for the dorsal fin and tail.

no need to be perfect, as people are gonna freak when they see the finished fish product anyway.

so, you'll need one tail (duh), one dorsal fin (duh) and 2 pectoral fins (those are the ones on the side), for each shark.

see, you learn something new everyday by watching the discovery channel...

i colored the candiquik with a tiny bit of black candy coloring.
that you will have to do if you want gray sharks.

or make them purple or orange or rainbow if you want.
:>P

allow the dome cookies, tail and fins to dry.

they dry fairly quickly if you freeze them and dip right away, like around 5 minutes.
Oooo!
he's coming together.

so you'll attach the dorsal fin to one of the cookies and the rest of the fins and tail to another cookie.

so 2 cookies=1 shark

originally i made 8 cookies for 4 sharks but 2 cookies broke cuz i didn't wait long enough to take them outta the pan.

so i ate 'em.
turned out ok since i was hungrier than a shark anyway.
:>P

now how about the face?
oops! i meant candiquik, not candiquick.

that darn shark scared the beejeezies outta me and i misspleed mispeled  mispelled oh forget it!

ok let's get this fish to breathe before he dies.
uh oh.
i think i know what happened to the poor leetle fishees...
but maybe the leetle fishees got away?

dun. dun.
dun. dun.
dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun.
dunney done!
oh i can't bear to look!!!
bad sharks!
bad. bad. bad!
just for that, i will cut you open.

hey and we didn't even need to get a bigger boat.

swim away leetle fishees you are now free to gooooooooo!

(this is what happened when my hubby and son watched the shark shows all week.
see how tv messes up my head?!)
