snowmen centerpieces (from dollar tree items)

this post was originally posted on DESIGN DAZZLE HERE

merry merry everyone! yes it is a merry time of year full of cheer and lots of parties. so these snowmen centerpieces are just the thing for all your merriment!
that's right these wintry cuties are made from dollar tree products! and i'll show you how easy they come together.

so let's face it, parties can be expensive to put together and flowers or any party table centerpiece can be crazy expensive especially when you have to buy 6-8 table centerpieces. with these, at about $7 a piece to make, you can have a whole snowmen crew that can cost you less than one floral centerpiece.

so without further ado,
let's get to these snowmen shall we?

you will need the following supplies:
2 snowmen faces per centerpiece, mason jar, buttons, 2 glittery bows (they come in packages of 2), white sand, wooden rod, hot glue gun
first up, hot glue the snowmen faces back to back. you can apply the hot glue to areas here and there on the border but just leave a small gap at the very bottom of the face below the middle of the snowman's smile to fit the wooden rod.
i used these roasting sticks that i happened to have already and trimmed them to about 12 inches.
insert the rod in between the snowmen heads and leave about 6 inches out.

ok put the heads aside and grab your jar and buttons. hot glue a couple buttons to one side of the jar and then again to the other side directly opposite as shown.
once the buttons are on, hot glue a bow right above the buttons on each side of the jar.
then fill your jar with white sand.
grab those snowmen heads and insert in the middle of the sand.

push the rod all the way down into the jar to anchor the snowmen heads.
here you will see what it looks like on the side.

when you place these on the table people can see their cute little faces on either side of the table,10 snowman centerpiece done hooplapalooza
which will surely make them feel even more merry! these centerpieces can be used for all your holiday parties and even winter ones after christmas is over!

oh it's oh so merry LOL

quick christmas treats

wanna make some quick christmas treats?
of course you do but you are busy.
but you wanna have a christmas party.

uh oh you have housework.
but you wanna have a christmas party next week.

oh boy you loove christmas treats.
but you have very little time to make them for your christmas party.

oh my! what to do?
no worries, i got you.

cuz this is exactly what my dilemma was and i managed to make a bunch of quick christmas treats in no time at all to delight the guests and kids of all ages.

all ya gotta do is head to walmart or your local grocery store, pick up some treats, and dress them up with candy melt and sprinkles.

the pics will show you how
but the directions are all the same.
just dip it, or use the candy melt as glue and add the sprinkles.

i'll let the pics speak for themselves:

so there ya go.
brownies. palmiers. oreos. and cookies.

a hohoho whoooole bunch of holiday sweetness that took a fraction to make and still tastes the same as if you were to make everything from complete scratch.

ok so maybe not exactly the same,
but it sure beats the time it would take to make them and that my friend, is a holiday treat!

peppermint snowman fudge

brrrrr!
holy moly it's COLD!
holy moly I LOVE IT!!!

seriously i am so not the florida girl.
i absolutely hate to sweat and rarely go to the beach
which is only 20 minutes away.

i know, that sounds dumb to some of you
but i was raised in a northern state with
4 seasons and that is where my roots are.

i absolutely LOVE winter and think it's the prettiest season.
i never even minded scraping the ice off
my windshield or waiting for my car seat
to stop freezing my bottom before i could drive off.

awww being frozen brings back
so many good memories! lol

so in honor of all things winter,
i made these snowmen.

peppermint snowman fudge actually that you can
custom color to fit any winter day.

they would be pretty in blue and white too!
it started when i found this mold at Michael's that i got on clearance for 70% off!
then i grabbed a 12 oz. bag of white chocolate chips and a can of vanilla frosting and went to town.
just nuke the whole bag of chips at 30 second intervals til melted and stir in the frosting.

divide the fudge into parts to either leave white and/or choose the colors of your fudge.

then fill up the mold.
i just slapped it on top then cleaned up the top.
leave room in the mold for the other colored layers.
make sure you bang the mold on the counter a few times so the layer settles and then you'll have room for the other colors you choose.

as you can see i used white, red and green.

ok the top layer of green looks like ca-ca (lol)
so all i did to fix that is push some peppermint on top like so:
then i froze the fudge for 2 hours and popped those little snowmen out to get this:

again i think they would be really pretty in blue and white!
(especially since christmas is over lol)
now if only i could make these snowmen come to real life
along with some snowflakes in my town...

snowmen mint meltaways

the holidays are over.
did you have a grand time?

did you get to spend quality time with family?
my sis and bro-in-law came and i also got a chance to be 813 miles from home to play in the snow with
my kids, hubby and MIL.
YIPPEE!

oh how i tire of palm trees and beaches!
(yeah, yeah, i know...)

we really did have a wonder full holiday and
now i am back to reality/work.
blah.

and i do miss making a few weekly blog posts,
so without further ado,
how's about we meet the snowmen mint meltaway family?
first lemme tell you how they came to be.
i found this recipe in my 14-yr-old daughter's old American Girl book and was reminded of the cuteness when i remember making them years ago when she was in nursery school.

i remember cuz the class went nutty crazy over them and said they were a huge hit cuz they melt in your mouth and there were no worries of choking on the peppermint goodness.

so here's what you need:

1 tbsp. softened butter (NOT margarine)
1 tbsp. light corn syrup
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
 1 cup powdered sugar
green and orange food coloring
dark blue and green nonpareils

just work with the peppermint dough
pretending it's playdough.

yes cross-eyed i did get.
dang!
those nonpareils are tiny!!!

anywho,
better get that knock on your door now...
i'll wait...

. . . . . . . . . . .

were you expecting them at your house?

no messes?!
wonderful!

now with so many in the house,
hope there are no fights either.
and that everyone has an awesome time.
yup.
a grand time for each and everyone of you.
so i hope you all have fun together!

especially with her.
even though she never seems to have her head on right,
she's still my favorite.

but if they do overstay their welcome,
you can always eat them.

i promise you won't regret it.

happy winter everybody!
