halloween monster in a jar

there are soooo many goodies in jars these days.

apple pie.
pudding.
rainbows.
fruit desserts.
cakes, pies, puddings, mixes, etc. of every flavor and color you can imagine.
i could go on and on!

so hey,
wanna another idea for a jar treat?
how about a MONSTER?!?!

i used 3 of these jars that i bought at walmart, not amazon (it's too much S&H!)and started the fun.
come join me!

in this tute there are tons of pics but these are actually quick to put together. i just like tons of pics rather than tons of words for a tute :)

let's make this real easy.
buy some ready made brownies and:
you with me so far?
let's make a monster!
(pretend the melted candy is like playdough and just move it around the folded wax paper. then when you are satisfied, open up the paper & fix it with a toothpick, cleaning up the sides with a spatula)
you'll wanna cut the bottom of your monster, not the arms, with a knife.
now comes the cool part...
do this with more candy melt & try to match the hands with the arms! "paint" these hands BELOW the rim of the jar, so as not to interfere with the lid.

one more thing to do.
now put this aside for now and grab jar #2.

put your brownie & cream cheese the same way you did for jar #1.

but instead of an oreo layer, color some frosting green or use melted candy melt again and:
got the grass done? doesn't have to be the whole next layer, just here and there like in the pic above.

so now we add the fun, although this jar doesn't really have a monster.

take these dollar tree lollipops.
and add the pumpkins, making sure they are facing the outside of the jar.
we'll get to spoon details in a bit...
put jar #2 aside.

you can use marshmallow pumpkin peeps instead of the pumpkin lollipops-i just couldn't find any at the time i was making these.

so,
grab jar #3 now.
our last and final jar.

make the brownie and cream cheese layer again. this time we'll use different cookies. and scary sprinkles and green starburst hands. don't forget to cut the lollipop stick so his head fits in.
now let's jazz these jars up.
spoons with washi tape, washi tape lids, twine and
tags made at this killer site.
(sorry i would make some for you but they keep printing out blurry when i post them-UGH!-anyone know why?)
wanna look at the final jars now?
ok :)
the hands make it look like he's coming outta the jar!
is it the great pumpkin, charlie brown?
and finally, is that frankenstein's monster i see peering out?

looks like there's one more jar left in the 4 pack.
you can have your base as anything you want, doesn't have to be brownie and cream cheese and cookies...
what kinda monster are ya gonna put in that one?
ghosts? skeletons? zombies?

i just love halloween.

witch's cauldron candy

i'm thinking witches are pretty darn intelligent.
i mean, it's not everyday a person can say a few phrases here and there and poof! something magical happens.

take for instance, that chant.

that famous chant that i will now try to interpret, hoping something magically happens in the end...

deeeeep breath.

here we go.
1st Witch:
Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.

?!?! my neighbor has a few cats.
i just asked them to meow 3 times for me.
so i think we are good.

2nd Witch:
Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.

ummm...
my other neighbor has a pig,
so i got him to oink for me.
in the hedges in our backyard.
i think i'm still good.

3rd Witch
Harpier cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!

ok! ok!
i got the cauldrons!

1st Witch:
Round about the cauldron go:
In the poisoned entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Sweated venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first in the charmed pot.

ummm...

not sure if these are sweated venom pots but let's just pretend.

and boil thou first?

how's about we just melt some green candy melts in the microwave and pour it over some hot popcorn with no seeds?
All:
Double,double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

hey, guess it's looking like a pot of witch's stew...?

2nd Witch:
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blindworm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing.
For charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

 what's a fenny snake?
there are a lot of snakes here in florida, but i ain't never seen a fenny snake before. or an adder's fork or blindworm's sting. and i dare not pull a howlet's wing off. poor little thing wouldn't be able to fly then will he? and i like owls.
oh and it looks like i gotta make the stuff really boil.
All:
Double,double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

3rd Witch:
Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witch's mummy, maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark,
Root of hemlock digg'd in the dark,
Liver of blaspheming Jew;
Gall of goat; and slips of yew
Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,-
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For ingredients of our cauldron.
All:
Double,double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

2nd Witch:

Cool it with a baboon's blood,
ok i gotta draw the line.
there is no way i am going near a baboon!

think i'll stick it in the fridge awhile if i wanna keep it cool.
seems a lot easier...
Then the charm is firm and good.
...................tick tock tick tock......................

HEY!
where's the "POOF"?!?!?!
the firm and charm that's all good?!?!

..................tick tock tick tock......................

OH!
there it is!
;D

so here we have:

source
shall we start the bidding at 25 cents?
but you, dr.frankenstein, are not allowed to bid since you already got a dozen of these last year.
25 25 25 25...

ugh. freakish.

i'm gonna stop there cuz I don't think i want any more grossness on my blog.

i mean what happened?
WHAT HAPPENED TO HALLOWEEN FOLKS?
cuz i cannot go into a halloween store these days without these body parts on full display for my innocent eyes without staring at them in awful wonder all neatly packaged in their cellophane and styrofoam trays and quickly feeling queazy if i don't shut my eyes real tight and pray i don't run over a little old lady with my shopping cart.

so when i blindly make the turn with my cart and run into this mask,

you my dear, are in SERIOUS need of dental work!
gawd awful mask that i photo edited here
i'm done.
toast.
stick a fork in me and do NOT wake me up til turkey day!

and you think i'd actually like all this stuff, since i am a halloween baby after all.

quite the contrary. i like things that don't make me ill. (don't EVEN ask me why i'm a nurse!)
and Halloween can be cute and fun and whimsical. so without further ado, let's look at this instead.
 cute little butter dishes.

awwwwwwwww...look at the purrttee leetle butter dishes! now these are much better to look at than severed body parts. indeed.

but they don't look halloweenish!?!

let's fix that then.

with these:

and add a little crazy imagination not involving blood.

all you gotta do is draw and you're done!

first up.
a fuzzy monster.
then a chevron pumpkin comes by with a leaf mustache.
(yeah, i know, i'm nutty.)

and take a look at my mummy.
well, not my mummy, mummy.
just a mummy.
and then along came a spider...
crud. messed up on the stupid web.
but hey! a little 409 gets it right out and i can start all over :)
all done.
so now what?

i mean, it's not like this would be appropriate for butter.
who puts butter in little dishes like this anyway?

what's wrong with a stick or a tub of butter at the dinner table?
if i am having a dinner that needs a separate butter dish like this, then i better be at a fancy schmany restaurant, and not in my kitchen waiting for the rolls to be done.
hehe

so since they are all cute and not gross, it only makes sense to use them right?

try these (i got them at wal-mart)

whad'ya think?
let's start the bidding at 1 cent.

1 1 1 1 1 1 1.....
