turkey stuffed pilgrim cookies

oh my goodness there are soooooooo many turkeys on the web!

and since there's no beatin' them, i'm joinin' them.
along with some thanksgiving cookies shaped like pilgrims.

but these are not your usual cookies.
i wanted to do something different and since i love the surprise inside cookies (like when i made these and these)that now float all over web world,
i came up with these:
you like them? they make me giggle.
and they really and truly are pretty easy to make trust me!

let's do it.

i knew i wanted a fast, easy, and delicious recipe and also didn't want the cookie to spread in the pan too much so i hoped and prayed it would work...

and it did!!!
these cookies are fragile if you do not freeze them to make the pilgrims.
you'll see in a few pics they were crumbling but i didn't care too much at the time cuz i was too excited to make them.
oh and also cuz i did NOT freeze the first ones while i shot the pics.
so make sure you freeze them before putting the bodies together.

did i tell you you need to freeze them?
just wanted to be sure...
these are the pilgrims' fat bellied bodies.
let's fix the bottom half of the body.
make sure that the cookie feet are glued in a way to make the body stand still.
we don't want any weeble woobly pilgrims!

ok so the bottom half is done.
put those aside a sec and work on the top half now.

after i glued the eyes i fell in love with them.
i mean look at the roundness!
heehee

but having round balls with just 2 eyes would be more appropriate for halloween and we all know we are SO OVER that holiday already (at least for now).

ok so draw the nose and the mouths with their little tongues and you are done with the heads.

while they dry, let's move onto the turkeys.
here's a closeup of the teeny guys, which only took a minute to make one.
so now you can stop there,
throw the cookies away
and just have your caramel turkeys
but since you have cute round heads and cute round bottoms with feet already, you might as well finish the rest of the body right?

stick with me cuz it's fairly easy actually.
oh and candy glue a yellow taffy made into a buckle for his hat.
and made from orange taffy is this:

shhh!
don't tell that turkey.

just be happy with these guys.

  2. Oh my goodness! I knew things would be bursting with cuteness over here (as usual!) but this clever little twist just blew me away! (A hard thing to do with nearly an entire Martha Stewart "mile high apple pie" safely tucked inside of ME since yesterday!) But I digress! These are so cute! And I can imagine the squeals of delight from both adults and kids when they find the little critters inside. I am saving this for when the grandkids get older and need a little craft to keep them busy while finishing touches are put on dinner! DARLING!
