chalkboard menu and my last co-host at Kids in the Kitchen

don't blink.
it's here.
the trickortreathappyturkeydaymerrymerryhappyholiday season is here!

the time when everything runs together and
the "i can't believe it's _______!" time.

the time for pumpkins and fall leaves and trick or treaters and turkeys and lit up trees and winter colds.

the time when bloggers are scrambling to post as many posts as they can to celebrate the holidays cuz you know,
makers gotta make and bakers gotta bake.

but while all this is going on,
the time that you don't wanna deal with is dinner time.

more specifically, the
"what's for dinner?" time.
at least for me.

ugh. those dreaded words kill me every time.
i am just not a fan of cooking, so dinner is not exactly one of my favorite things to think about when it's me who has to do the cooking.

and with the holidays coming up lickety split time,
i ain't got time for that dinner idea.

but we gotta eat right? so whatsa girl to do?
how about making this:
i almost passed this up, thinking why do i need another something?
but when i got my idea, i was glad i didn't pass it up.

i dug around my craft stash and got these out:
then i got to work and eyeballed the next step.
i was gonna write directly on the board til i saw these labels and decided to use them instead.
i know my cardboard is small but it's all i had at the time so i went for it. it just makes the labels a little sturdier.

oh, don't leave that "subject to change" line out.
it'll be much less stress on you. hehe
i hot glued the clothespins directly on the washi tape.
these were also in my craft sash from marshall's.
i know, i know, i have a HUGE craft stash! :>P
i also found a small canvas drawstring bag that came in handy. i wrote on it with sharpie and:

so there ya go.
i switch the labels here and there and change them if i plan on something else like fish or a special dish.

using general options makes it a heckuva lot less stressful for me. cuz if pasta is the dish of the day, i can make spaghetti, fettuccine alfredo, lasagna, or whatever falls in the pasta category.
and if it's pork, it can be pork chops, pork roast, sweet and sour pork, etc etc.
i think you get the picture right?

cuz, to be honest, i tried a specific dinner menu before and hardly ever stuck to it. our schedule was too busy, i was too lazy or tired to make it, i forgot to buy the ingredients for it, or we just plain were't in the mood for it. and oh yeah, it was another hassle erasing and changing it. so i am trying this way and so far it's working out pretty well. i just move the labels around so there's not so much erasing going on. but it's also a surprise to everyone to see what kinda beef or chicken dish i will make.
my favorite option is still the "no clue???" one.
come to think of it, i shoulda made all the labels that way!

anywho, before i go, there is ONE more link party that i am co-hosting for this month, so PLEASE link up and finish this wonderful opportunity with a HUUUUUGE bang!

marshmallow pumpkins on a vine and Kids in the Kitchen

h'lo all you crazy fall/autumn pinners you!
how's 'bout an easy food craft today?

this one is a fallish/autumnish/halloweenish kinda treat.
well, maybe the vine part is a little much for you but you can always leave that part out...

anyhoo,
jet puff now makes pumpkin spice marshmallows. pretty yummy huh?

take that along with some sour belt candy and do this:
i won't bore you with my usual step by step instructions.
it's kinda self-explanatory by the pics i suppose,
as all you do is stack some marshmallows, dip it then decorate with the green part of sour belts, orange candy melt and green starburst candy leaves.
so see, you can do any kind of design you want.
i made some horizontal and vertical.
then i stuck the stick in a colorful straw for the last little detail.

after i made these, i thought it would be cute as name placecards for parties too by writing the names of your guests on it like i did for the eeek! pumpkins.

unless you know someone by the name of "eeek!" then you are already done with one placecard. do you know of such a person?

...i kinda do...

that person would be me, actually, as i have been saying "eeek!" a lot cuz halloween is coming and i have a million things i wanna create but this nursing job is taking up so much of my energy lately. now all i have time for lately, is pretty much nothing...

"eeek!"
see what i mean?
it makes one crazy.

crazy enough to make all her pictures turn into cartoons.
oh well, at least you always have a party to look forward to on Thursday nites in September around here.

so go on and please link up!
it's my 3rd week with Kids in the Kitchen, thanks to

pumpkin scarecrow cake pops

i guess summer is officially over.
it's not the weather that tells me so,
it's the "weather" in blog land.
when all the pumpkins and the fall leaves and the HALLOWEEN posts start.

Halloween?!?!
but i haven't even put up my 1st fall post yet!
so i guess i better get started on my christmas posts to start in october and my valentines post to start in december and my easter posts to start in february?!

oh sometimes blogging is stressful...
but what the heck, let's do this!

today i'm gonna show you how to make these guys:
i only made 2, one for each of my kids cuz i was just foolin' around in the kitchen one day, but it would be cool to make a bunch.
with different personalities and faces of course.
anywho, start by grabbing this:
make the cake pop by smooshing the cupcakes and adding just enough icing til it forms a dough. i bought a dozen ready made cupcakes at the grocery and took the frosting off of 6 of them so i could use the new cinnabon yummy kind.

6 mini cupcakes made 2 scarecrows.

check out the queen's directions for cake pop making here if you never made cake pops before.

ok so i got 2 different molds.
yes make them headless horsemen without the horses.
while they are freezing, let's make the decorations.
made with some melted candy bark and a toothpick.
put the upper body part aside for a sec, you surgeon you.
good job calvin klein for making your first pair of pants! trim the top of the skewer off too while you're at it.
now how 'bout some color?
don't try to dip your pants (?!?!) as it will fall off the stick. doing it this way ensures
no falling or breaking pieces.

next grab your small pieces of shredded wheat and attach to the bottom of the pants with candy glue for the feet.

then grab the upper body and stick it thru the skewer on top of the pants.
yeah i said don't forget the scoring part cuz i forgot to mention that part when you make the pants.
dang! making these tutorials isn't always easy, but it's easier when you are actually making them, really.

ok so about the head.
i should've pushed the pants down lower on the skewer in the first place to make room for the head on top of the shirt.

guess i wasn't using my brain at the time so i just candy glued it on and covered it with orange candy just like i did for the pants and shirt. the head did hold for me but if you make these guys, it's smarter to make room to skewer the head on to ensure it stays put.

then before the candy was completely dry, i took a small spatula and iced it to give the pumpkin head some line dimension.

ok next up,
just nuke it at 5 second intervals or just long enough to soften it to make it easier to cut tiny patches.

i nuked mine for 30 seconds which was waaay tooooo long as you see above so the airheads made a psychedelic lava patch in the parchment paper.
at first i was like ugh! but then it actually looked cool.
you can also avoid nuking all together and use starburst fruit chews, colored tootsie rolls, taffy, or whatever else sorta soft candy but airheads are all i had.
(airhead is kinda today's topic if you didn't catch that)
now to finish him off...
ok so now they are all complete!
let's see what these crazy kids are up to...
poor scarecrows.
maybe i should send them to
the Wizard of Oz to ask for a brain...
