campfire marshmallow cookies

oooooo weeee!
i don't think it's hot enough outside.

i mean, the air conditioner electric bill is off the charts and the numerous showers taken everyday just to feel cool isn't cutting it.

i think we need to really heat things up.

like say in a handheld version that you can carry around with you all day long just to remind you we got a little more summer left?

ok.....

you got me.

it's ugly dang hot out and i made these for a camping party way back in december. living in florida means it's always bloody hot, and december temps are still running in the 80's.
so no matter what, the sun's pretty much around
all the time.
guess that's why it's called "the sunshine state"-
duh! on me.

but i know some lucky people up north who can camp in the summer and actually enjoy the weather.

and kids are still out of school so they can stay up all nite camping and catch fireflies and make s'mores and get 20 million insect bites and not give a hoot about it.

oh i am so jealous!

but if anyone suffers from 20 million insect bites from camping then i do believe they deserve a treat!

so let's do this.

you'll need:
  • chocolate wafers
  • large (not jumbo) marshmallows
  • choco straw chocolate decorations (from the awesome world market store) or these would work too
  • about 10 or so chocolate candy melts
  • a bag each of yellow and orange candy melts
  • bbq skewer sticks
  • toothpicks
  • mini pretzel sticks
  • mini marshmallows
first lay your chocolate wafers down.
then,
next take those choco sticks and, oh!...
aren't they pretty?
but now you have to BREAK them apart in about 1/2 inch pieces!
use one to two sticks for each cookie.

and melt a small amount of chocolate melts for some "glue".
now set those aside to dry.

in the meantime, melt the yellow candy melts and the orange candy melts in separate bowls according to package directions.

but see here, this is important-
candy melts are cool and all but they can be quite difficult to work with if the candy is too thick for dipping.

so what to do?

jump up and down cuz you want your candy melt to be slightly thick anyway when you melt them!

so when you melt them and find the consistency a tad thick, you can say
"hooray!"

you'll see what i mean if you continue...

go back to your stick embellished cookies and make sure they are dry.

now remember those skewer marshmallows?
it's time to get those out now.
this part gets a little messy cuz you have to take the skewers out of the marshmallows.
that's why you see a lot of white spots on the marshmallows above (it's blurry, i know) but that's where i held the marshmallow to pry the skewer off.

no worry though cuz next step will fix it.

see what i mean by having thick candy for dipping? if it was nice and smooth, it wouldn't be able to hold a "flame".

"huh?" you say?

look:
holy cow!
you just invented fire without rubbing 2 sticks together or lighting a match!

uh oh,
the temperature's a'rising...
is it hot in here or is it just me?
hey,
i think the fire's spreading...
whoa!
hold on a sec.

seeing that these fires are edible, i think we can do one more thing to lessen the alarm.

what about this?
hey yo!
would'ya look at that?!

take a pretzel stick,
stick it in the middle of a mini marshmallow,
"glue" it down with a little yellow or orange candy melt to the fire and you have just made yourself a little campfire.

fire?
did someone say fire again?!?!
so have a campfire roasting marshmallow party!
but remember to bring drinks cuz they can cause you to feel

but you're so cool you have no need to worry
:)
